Saw this in one of the double mint sets we have and put it under the dinolite tonight.
Does it just miss for FS?

  • it wont FS because of the gash on the left.

    I think it will

but not sure of any Denvers worth slabbing from double mint sets unless MS67

Ron, it looks like FS except for the aberration mentioned above. Can you see if that is a PMD or die fault? Cheers, RickO

I wouldn't call the nick at the left a gash. From what I can tell it would FS. You will need to evaluate if the nick cuts through any of the indented step lines. Nice steps otherwise. What year is this one? Post pictures of the obverse and revere. Then we would better be able to assess value in trying for a grade.

I too believe it will full step. The mark on the left is not deep enough to interupt the step count. Shag

60/40 odds against the full step designation.

I have seem many with a designation that had similar steps, however, the odds of receiving a favorable designation with a coin like this these days are slim.

    Good luck.

I think it misses the FS designation. I notice some closure of the bottom step along the right side, just below the second column from the left. Just my opinion. What the heck, give it a try...it's just money.image

    Yes that would FS IMHO.

Looks nice too. But they aren't worth too much for this date unless ms66FS.

with your bright light I can see it is toned, and usually mint sets look nice- what colors is it? (is it blue?)

looks complete for 5 steps (PCGS require) and 3/4s of the 6th step

the nick on the face and chin will keep it in the 65-66 range
so keeping raw or slabbing would be up to you.

It is a very nice coin, and possibly a few years in the future, this series will take off more and values go up

    Sinin,

This one is barely toned. Just a light metallic color.
I don't submit much, and don't know the series, but most of the others are pretty mushie, so this one kind of stood out for me.

Are those lines to the left of Monticello die polish lines?
    They appear to be curved.

    Swampie,

I blew the pic up a bit and looked...they are raised, so I believe they would be die polish lines.

Nice pictures. Clearly would FS, probably grade 65FS, on a good day with PCGS maybe even 66FS. However, 1958-D's are pretty common and are typically fully struck. The hair around the ear is soft, but otherwise a nice sample. You may be able to sell one graded MS66FS for $70 to $80, for sure less than $100. Save the submission time and money and go to some shows and purchase more Jeffersons and start a set!

  • I thought it was FS, too and was excited for you until you showed that it was a 58-D. Save your money and don't send it in.
