Embossed Mintmark Buffaloes
Just a warning to all my fellow coin enthusiasts here.
The practice of "embossing" a Mintmark, that is, drilling a hole in the rim and pushing up a mintmark on a coin
is not only found on Mint State specimens.
I just spotted one.......a 1925-S. This is the second one I've seen for that date.
Both coins were EF.
If you are thinking of purchasing a higher grade Key, check the rim under the mintmark. Make sure the Mintmark is of the correct style for the date.
There will be signs of "tooling" to hide the hole.
Some of these are very deceptive.

Not to be picky but they drill the hole in the edge rather than the rim.

Correct.
You need to check the edge under the mint mark on any high-value Buffalo.

There are also pics of the tooling marks.
