My 2001-P Sacagawea Dollars from the US Mint Direct Ship program have 2000-P Coins in them!!!

I have a roll, still US Mint sealed, with 2000 P on one end, and 2001 P on the other. No joke!! I haven't opened it yet, maybe it has edge lettering.

Here is a link to the video of the roll for those that for some reason would care:

  • interesting find. you gotta wonder if they are dumping some 2000`s in with the 2001`s to get rid of them? or was it just 1 stuck in a bin somewhere? do the end coins look fresh or do they look tarnished and spotted?

    I don't think I'm going to sell it, it's kinda cool. Might be something my son (now 19 months) could find interesting some day. And besides, I do not think that is what the mint intended. I open these things up and pay for lunch with them. The vending machine guys in our building at work must be wondering why they are getting so many of them recently.

    I thought mine were pretty tarnished.

    Some had crescent tarnish marks.

    Some looked like they had textile bag tarnish.

    I took a closer look and thought it looked like dirt.

    Out comes the acetone and off comes the dirt leaving a light tarnish.

    Obviously these things have been sitting and sitting and I wonder if they just pulled a wrong bag next to the 2001's and dumped it in, or they were accidentally mixed back around the end of 2000 to the beginning of 2001. It will be interesting to hear if anyone finds a whole roll or box of 2000's in a 2001 wrapper.

    thanks for the video.

    TrusrNo1, you beat me to posting a simular reply, Cheerios Sac, mules maybe it's a real treasure roll a 1969-S DDO. But what does someone do with this roll? The vaule, whatever it may be would be gone if opened. Well maybe someone can start a Third Party Roll Opening Company? Yes I do find this interesting, Good Luck.

    sounds like a bag of 2000's got mixed in with the 2001's

    and I guess there is an off chance a press cranked some 2000's out by accident and not all of them were caught.

    well i got 500 worth of the 2001 rolls and the first and only one i opened i found a 2001p that is totally brown on both sides wish i had a camera but i have found a link that i think explains what i found, http://www.smalldollars.com/dollar/add002.html i have not opened any other rolls yet still trying to see about sending this coin in to pcgs and see if it comes back with that stamp. its funny because everytime i order there coins i get the d mint mark because i am in illinois so i was surprised to see the box was filled with the p's happy hunting everyone : }

    Maybe they were put aside for the Cheerios promo and got overlooked. image
