If you notice, the photo shows the coin in a PCGS slab, but the PCGS grade in not mentioned. I know what it graded. Do you think the seller should disclose that grade?

Seller also notes that the coin for sale is not encased in a holder. What kind of animal does the real coin look like? Dog, pig?

Sounds like a Monday morning ethics lesson.

For what? Disagreeing with PCGS if that is even the case. If every coin got pulled on eBay that had been submitted X number of times with bad results for some of them, they would see their number of sales fall off by a factor of most. I doubt anybody who would drop 1k on a large cent would not recognize the PCGS slab in the picture or ask why a MS65 had not been sent in after 20 years. What if it came back MS62 and he paid 64 money. I see nothing wrong here, shady maybe but when you own the coin you can do with what you like of other people's (PCGS in this case) opinions as yours is the most important. The trick is getting other people to agree and in that case he isn't doing so well.
it goes like this......................what if the coin is actually what the seller says it is, an 1820 Large Cent Liberty Head Large Date - ANACS - MS65, he had it certified( to be certain it was "Genuine") and he's a really bad photographer so the coin doesn't really quite look right. heck, it may only be what he says it is.
<< <i>crypto, a most excellent point you raise. i'll go one further------------what if every member who had submitted a coin -X- number of times till they got the grade they wanted had to stop trying to crucify others that they think are less honest than them?? wouldn't that be neat!!!
Or if people who dealt in Toned coins really thought that a business could be run with absolute full disclosure or that pumpkin orange copper was somehow more shady then blue/green silver.

Yeah...we kinda picked up on that the first time you said it, in the OP.
OK then...so why not divulge same? Why the big aura of mystery?
As to the ANACS cert... this seller obviously sent it in, didn't like the PCGS grade, and decided to crack it and sell it with the original ANACS cert. That is not against ebay rules, thus it is not reportable.

He wants to know if it belongs to anyone here before he starts trashing the seller.

I don't think the seller is a member here and just stating the grade isn't "trashing", so, JJ, state it already
(MS63BN? Genny?)

Sure it is reportable. He's got a grade in the title, which is a no no with Ebay on RAW coins.
Absolute violation!

Yeah, I kinda picked up on THAT when I read the thread title...
but when has a little detail like that stopped anyone before?
Edit to add....the coin isn't raw...it has been graded by ANACS, and therefore is perfectly legal as it stands with the original cert. Whether or not the seller submitted it to a different service is immaterial. He's selling it as an ANACS 65/65, which is all the buyer needs to know when considering whether or not they agree with the grade. I wouldn't bid this item as I don't agree with the grade, but the seller is within his rights to crack out an item and offer it with the original cert. Obviously PCGS must have graded it lower, otherwise this thread would not exist.

<< <i>If a coin is pictured in an ANACS picture that has grade, then coin is still raw? even though certified by ANACS? >>
Seller says the coin is not in a holder at the present time. "The coin is not encased in a holder".
So, to me that means it's been in holders but not now. Perhaps it's not the same coin? I would think
that he'd disclose that fact but who knows? It does appear to be the same coin but what happened to
it once he took it out of the holder for PCGS to body bag it (genuine)? Someone mess with it?? Too many red
flags for me.

Coins graded with the old photo certificates were never encapsulated. His remark about the coin not being in a holder is obviously just a reference that the coin is not in a holder, contrary to how it appears in the photos.

Exactly.
If the seller were a little smarter he would have imaged the coin raw and we wouldn't be talking about it. So he's guilty of bad judgment, that's all.
Lance.

<< <i>The coin graded 63RB at PCGS. My only problem is that he states in the auction that the coin was graded in 1985 under what he thinks are stricter than current standards. He knows it wasn't graded under stricter than current standards, because the coin took a 2 point hit under current standards. >>
I understand what you are saying but all the seller is doing is going with the more appealing opinion and that he feels is from anacs. He also provides a 7 day return policy which imo is more than enough time for someone to look the coin over.

well, click on the image to enlarge it and the some of the "PC" in PCGS is in the lower right corner of the picture.
so... is everyone going to e-mail the seller first and tell him to resubmit it X-times?
