too much wear to even think there is anything that can pinpoint the year image
(picture of coin still in 2x2 w/ cellophane, hence the glare in spots)

Large size, or reduced size ???
Appears to be an 1818 based on the position of the "8"

Interesting wear pattern.....cannot think of a reason that would occur in such a pattern. Cheers, RickO

The obv and rev die cracks should be diagnostic. But at this point I'm a bit too lazy to grab the "bible". I may give that a try later today.

Lanlord, it would be cool if you could do it from the pic.
I have a larger version of the pic if needed.

  • I believe that it is the 1818, B-8 die marriage.

  • I wish it had some of the letters of the banner showing so i can see where the "T" is placed on the reverse. Because of the position of the "C" under the stem and the size and location of the "5". Also the location of the 8 on the obverse in line with the curl tells me that it is not an 1828.

This coin is the 1818 B-8. The tell would be the location of the 5 under the feather of the arrow shaft.

    You guys are great!
Last year, I posted a super heavily worn 179x large cent and folks diagnosed it out as a 1797.
    Now, this quarter.

I don't set out to fool anyone but I thought this one would be nigh impossible. Great job!
(too bad it isn't worth sending to get slabbed to see what they would say image )
