Maris in the 1869 pamphlet Varieties of the Copper Issues of the United States Mint in the Year 1794 refers to his No. 25
as the Nondescript...
In the description he notes the Date, legend and cap resemble No. 18. Maris No. 18 which Maris refers to as
Venus Marina is Sheldon 32 seen below...
The Maris No. 25 is actually the same obverse as Maris No. 17 / Sheldon 28 pictured below which Maris
refers to as The Ornate...
From the Goldberg / Holmes sale pictured is Lot 48 Maris No. 25 / Sheldon 29...
The reverse as illustrated below has a long right ribbon and a long-tailed R in America...
I am not sure why Maris called his No. 25 the Nondescript as the reverse it seems would have lent a
better name...oh well...back to bed.

Unless otherwise noted in my threads the coins and literature I picture/reference are my own...I try to always credit coins I do
not physically possess but of course there may be errors over the course of my posts.
For example in the current thread the Holmes S-29 is not mine so I note its source as the Goldberg / Holmes Sale 54 whereas the
S-32 and the S-28 are mine so no credit is given.

The only way my coins will be plate coins is if mice eat the cookie crumbs off of them at night when I leave the office.

I was told once with respect to music that as we mature we gravitate toward Beethoven's string quartets and never leave...I find early copper casts a similar spell.
Note: Beethoven's string quartets are Heavy Metal...don't go through life without listening.
Like many others, I too love seeing nice examples of early copper, and these are definitely nice. Good detailed information is always a plus.
