Old Judge new pose find

My collecting interests rarely take me back prior to the 50s, but a few month back, came across an Old Judge collection, and thanks the the Net54 Forum, found out I had a brand new pose variation! Anyway, after a half century stay at PSA, they confirmed it was a new pose, and gave it its own pose name (they even asked for my approval on the pose description, hah!). Just got it back, and thought I'd share it with the board

  • Glad to see there is always the possibility of something new to be found - congrats !
  • Pretty cool. Been thinking I might try and pick up a few of those cards if I ever see a good deal. 130 years old?! That guy is probably a Civil War vet! (Okay, probably not...but there might be a guy or two in that set that is.)

    Cool!

With close to 4,000 different poses known so far its not too unusual to find a new one, but still cool. Most players have between 3-10 poses, but some have over 20 different. They are popping up more often now that oldschool collectors are figuring out how to use a computer and can scan their poses to compare to see if they are the same or a variation in bat/arm angle etc.

Go old! N172s are fun and cheap compared to much of the modern shinny stuff.

Congratulations on the new find! It's cool to be in on something like this.

That's gotta have the prewar guys excited.

  • This is the kind of thread that should get more attention on this forum but only gets a few responses. Kevin gets banned and the thread about it is approaching 100 replies.

Awesome card! I would be stoked to actually own the one and only example known to exist of a 122 year old card.

nice! It seems like there is a few variations of Old Judges popping up every year or two, due to the sheer size of the set. What do you plan on doing with it? Very cool-

  • Even if it's not all that uncommon for new poses of OJ cards pop up every couple of years, it's really cool to see it happen. Unlike many of the more esoteric and/or scarcer issues that occasionally surface among N-types, Old Judges are among the most researched and widely collected of N cards. That makes it incredibly cool.

I plan on selling it. After much debate on how to sell it, I think for the first time ever, I'll consign it to a major auction house. Typically, I would sell it through eBay, but think that this card may have better luck with an auction house. I've talked to several of the houses, and am leaning towards Goodwin, any thoughts?

  • I'm a little late here, but amazing card and congrats.

Have you auctioned it yet? I'm curious what a card like that will go for.

I'm no help at all with auction houses.

    Nightcrawler,
It has not gone up for auction yet, but I decided not to sell via auction house. I sold quite a few common/semi-star OJs last week via eBay and had great luck, so I'm planning on selling it through eBay next week and hoping it does well. I'm also curious to what it will bring.
