WW2 themed Memorial Day tribute.

I would like to post a tribute to the WW2 vets and the families thereof. It will be a history thread of sorts that will of course cover coins but will also branch out to the "Who, What, When, Where and Why". I will not post any pictures of death whether it be from war, Concentration Camps or Atomic Bombs as I would not want someone to accidentally come across them. It is very important, though, that we never forget what happened during the course of WW2.

I will be away from the computer off and on so this will be a thread in progress.

Propaganda posters from both sides:

  • In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

"War is hell," General William Tecumseh Sherman purportedly said during the American Civil War. That now-infamous saying is nowhere more applicable than to the Second World War, a massive global conflict that saw the deaths of well over forty million people from 1939 to 1945.

This is all that I have. I don't collect foreign coins and currency so maybe someone who is familiar with them could post any pics of what Germany, Japan, Soviet, etc. were using at that time and tell us whether or not any other countries changed their coin and currency due to the War.

I hate to be picky, but some of your posters are from the First World War, or, as my Grandmother called it, the Great War. The plane over Iwo is actually a C130 Hercules which didn't come around until the 60's so this is a later photo. Nice job though!

Which of the posters are from WW1?

I took out the pic of the c130 Hercules. Thanks for identifying it.
