    Don,

I'd say EF or AU tops. The auction photo implies luster that isn't there, so I understand your disappointment.

    ajaan,

Your photos look darker than the seller's image. Not BUish, but attractive for copper. What will you do with the coin?

    Don,
That's a pretty nice coin, even though it is a common coin. The 1911 one is the one that is of historic interest.

I sent this message to the seller:

<< <i>Received the coin today. It looks nothing like the coin imaged. The coin is a brown AU50 at best. Your image was enhanced to make the coin appear to have lustre and color which it doesn't have. I see you state: "What you see is what you get". Not true, what you see is not what you get. I also see all sales are final. Good for you, bad for me. I'm very disappointed in the coin. --Don >>

Here is the auction. I recommend you avoid this seller.

Do you think he deserves a neg?

I'd give the seller a neutral. Yes, the coin was overgraded and doesn't look that great given your images. IMO, a negative would be more appropriate if the seller was rude or didn't send you the coin after you paid.

I agree you should not return the coin. I've been burned by a couple of returns to GB where the coin "never arrived." I've sometimes been given a partial refund from a seller for a coin that was overgraded.

01firstedition has a store. Maybe I'll buy something from him just to neg him. Since he can't neg a buyer, I don't see why we can't neg him on general principle... image

Doh - all he has is cards... cards, cards and more cards. Not a coin to be seen. image

Why don't you see if he will accept a return before you neg. him?

    Clearly the coin is overgraded.

I would not bother with a negative on a $6 coin. A neutral on principle maybe.

Received an email from the seller and he does have a return policy I guess. He refunded my money already. I guess I was kind of hard on the guy. He really wanted to make it right. I think he doesn't do coins much and just wasn't knowlegable about the coin.
