    This coin was legal tender in the US until 1857 so it may very well have circulated in the US.

    This is interesting to me. So, out of curiosity, what would the face value of that coin have been? Other than the fact it is gold and worth far more now, how much in goods could you buy with it back then?

    Basicly, foreign gold and silver coin were worth the value of their bullion content as were american gold and silver coins at that time. I believe gold dubloons were worth about $16 at that time.
