Dont you just hate it when......

you are given first dibs at your "dream coin" at a time when you cant afford it? A friend just emailed me regarding an ultra rarity (555 pieces extant) which would cost me about $7,000. The coin has an intrinsic value of just $884 currently (wink, wink), so it IS a risky proposition in the current state of our economy. The only way I could afford to aquire this piece would be to cannabalize some of my collection. In the past, this was not a problem since I had loads of junk that didnt "fit". Now, however, almost everything in my collection belongs. What to do?

Try and work something out Gecko!

There is a downside to having a streamlined collection or say a "Box of 20"!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!

    OK, lets figure this out???

#1 - $884 is roughly the spot price of Gold.

#2 - We all know gecko109 is a "Panda Guy"

#3 - Therefore I believe we can "ASS/U/ME" that the coin is a 1 oz Gold Panda

    #4 - 1982 is the lowest mintage of 1 oz Gold Panda's @ 13,532 pcs

    #5 - 1995 is the 2nd lowest mintage of 1 oz Gold Panda's @ 17,412 pcs

Therefore my guess is a 1oz Gold Panda of 1982 or 1995. Probably the 1982 coin image

Well gecko,,,,, how did I do?

Your thought process is logical and easy to follow, plus you are on the right track. However, in order for it to be a 1982 gold panda, the coin would almost have to be a 70 to sell for $7,000. Also, you will notice from my OP that the number of pieces in existance is believed to be 555. There are far more 1982s out there than that. The coin im talking about is the 1995 proof gold panda. To me, its the absolute "holy grail" of all 1oz gold pandas. It would be an exhilirating feeling to actually own one of these.

Well, at least I mentioned 1995 anyway image

Guess I overlooked the 555 pcs mintage.

I don't follow the Proofs as close as MS coins image

  • Sell the coins in your collection that are relatively common and easily found. That way it will be easy to gradually rebuild.
