Grade the Trade (Dollar, that is)!! ***Grade Revealed***

anablepanablep Posts: 5,174 ✭✭✭✭✭
Your opinions are welcome on my new purchase.

I've never owned one of these and I'm excited about my first Trade $.

I couldn't resist as the toning resembles what I look for on Morgan Dollars...

I'll reveal the grade later... Thanks for looking!!

First two posters got it right!! Nice job... I'll try to post pix that show luster tomorrow...

UNC details, cleaned / retoned, net AU55. Neat die pitting / rust bumps on the reverse.

Looks like a 55 to me. Seems to be lacking luster though.

I will say, before I reveal the grade, that the luster is BOOMING.

Your photos seem to highlight the tonining at the expense of showing the luster which is the case many times. can you post photos showing the luster instead of the toning? Luster is important when grading AU-MS coins.

great looking Trade! i'd love to own that one.

of course you've received the usual "cleaned and retoned" comment.....as you no doubt already know, there is no shortage of bumbleheads here that love to throw that comment in on every toned coin they see.....in most cases i think they're just missing their meds

dorkkarl, seriously, do you really hate everyones coins but your own or what? Im kinda surprised you didn't think this was one of those simple chemical jobs as you so often do. Im still waiting for you to match the 1944-S Walker PCGS MS65 Rainbow of mine you claimed to be net AU and had hideous AT color. If you recall you could reproduce that color overnight or something along those lines.

Its a awesome looking Trade Dollar. Is that so hard to say?

that's ok, if every one shared your opinion all the time, life would truly suck, would'nt it?

this coin has ZERO luster whatsoever, so how can a supposedly "borderline unc" (au=58) coin have absolutely no luster? cleaning comes to mind.

it's simply stupid for you to think i hate everone elses coins. on the contrary i have numerous times stated how great some posted coins look. & i have alot of coins that flat out suck.

dorkkarl: the pictures do not show the nice fields on this coin and the luster it possesses. The images I took capture the color more than the cartwheel effect, which I am having trouble getting with my camera due to glare. However, your point about it looking like it has no luster only confirms that grading a coin by a computer image alone can be deceptive and difficult.

Thanks for your comments and I hope to show you the quality of the luster on this piece soon.

Edit: Here ya go: best I can do. Hope this helps the luster issue. Reverse image is better than obverse...
