DMPL Morgans.....

What is the most DMPL Morgan you have ever witnessed? I saw a Reverse today, for my first time, that is at least 8". I have heard that there are even deeper ones. Can anyone attest to this, and if so, ya got pics?

I have many that have deeper than 8" mirrors, in excess of a foot. They are harder than generally mentioned to actually measure right or image represent when in slabs. Sometimes, I wonder if that is not why crossovers of PLs and DMPLs is as difficult as it is. Wanna see some nice and deep ones? Try locating those old, original ANACS UDM slabs. A lot of collectors are very resistant to sell them though and they often don;t want to cross them to garden variety DMPL at the other services. I know I won't. Registries aren't that important.

Here is one with at least 18" mirrors. I just happened to have it around because it was among some I thought of sending to Leroy. The third shot is a crude attempt to show the mirror in the slab. It is the grey sheet reflected at 11", as that is the distance I could set up easily using the long side of a letter size sheet of paper. Certainly it can go further, but this Exilim camera is flaky in trying to capture it.

Yeah, I know, it's only graded PL, but this coin has the most UNbelievable DMPL reverse I've ever seen. Extremely deep and the toning just enhances it all the more.

I handled a few rolls of 1878 7/8 TF BU Morgans a couple years back. Many of them had by far the most stunning DMPL surfaces I've ever seen---I mean EVER. The fields literally looked like water. I could read news-print off them at full arms length.

I wish I had kept a few...

These two DMPL's have 12+ mirrors and are showing excellent clarity. The Anacs UDM's are a hard find, you just do not see them that often. To elaborate on what John said, PL Morgan collectors do see the UDM to be the pinnacle of the DMPL's, and they are worthy of any sticker.

I would say that 18-20 inches is about the deepest I've ever seen. I have held an 1885-CC that at arms length, I could see my own eyeball like I was looking in a mirror. Interestingly, the coin was MS65DMPL. I've never seen a 66DMPL that could get close to that depth. Several other dates that exhibit across-the-room DMPLs are:
1879-O
1881-O
1885
1897-S

These are by no means the most common dates for DMPL, but some of these that survived will just knock your socks off.

You can view most of the DMPLs in the collection I put together by looking at the DT Miller by Ashmore set on PCGS Registry.

This thread is 100% excellent! One question I've been wondering... does anybody have any success finding dmpls raw anywhere, or have they all been certified by now- I never see much that qualifies in my limited show searches...

there are some that literally can let you read the "exit" sign across a room, so i'd say 100 feet reflectivity is about the best i've seen

They are exceedingly difficult to find raw and problem-free. It is very different from 25 years ago.

Don Rinkor had an 1885-CC at the Santa Clara show that was mind-numbingly black and white with abyss-deep mirrors. It was an MS65DMPL PCGS coin and made me salivate big time. He had a client that already saw it and had to go and get a coin to trade in towards it before I got to claim it. Grrrrr.

Carson City GSAs that haven't been picked over sometimes contain some deep mirrors, although they are usually baggy. Otherwise, I haven't been offered a quantity of raw DMPLs since about 1995.
