USPS speed record

Maybe I'm bragging a little but every once in a while everything works right.

Sold a coin on eBay Saturday Morning.
Shipped it Saturday at noon via priority mail.
Recived Feedback on Delivered coin (from Cal to Ohio) Monday morning.

Wow.

I have done it a few times with 1st class mail. Sometimes they just go at the same speed.image

Priority = 1st Class package service. Any 1st Class package under 13oz is a windfall to the USPS if paying the Priority rate. The only way to make a 1st Class package move faster is to use barcoding.

All my shipping labels have barcoding.
  • I have had that happen occasionally. My best was SC to Alaska. I shipped on a Thursday and got feedback on the following Monday. That same batch, I had two go to Washington state on Thursday and got feedback on Saturday.

Sometimes the USPS can make a seller look awesome. Other times they can make you look like a thief.

But the buyers rarely check the fifth star for shipping charges even if you offer free shipping...image

I just sent a package that I charged $10 for shipping and insurance and I actually paid $19.60. Wonder if the seller will give me that fifth star?

Well it's not like that everwhere...

I sold a coin on the BST. The buyer said he sent a check on the 19th. By the 26th I was having some doubts so I sent a little message just to let him know I hadn't received his check yet. He said for sure he sent it on the 19th; so I'd imagine he was having his doubts about me as well.

Well the check showed up Sat the 27th and indeed was postmarked the 19th. 8 days from Colorado to Texas... maybe it came Pony Express image

The variability is amazing. I have seen it both ways... literally overnight and 12 days.... just no consistancy. Cheers, RickO
  • It commonly takes 2 weeks for a package from the mint to get here (10 miles from Cincinnati distribution center) from Memphis. I like FedEx's performance much better. My wife sent me some documents from Manila with pick up on what was our Friday night, and it arrived at 8:30 this morning. Too bad FedEx doesn't insure coins.

That's the way Priority Mail should work, and the delivery transit time was not anything special. Most of the USPS Priority Mail items that I send on Saturdays tend to be delivered by Monday. It also helps some if the mail was dropped off at a location that has direct routing to a major airport's AMC.

One time I had an Express Mail box that was delivered on the same day that it was mailed. For transit service like that FedEx or UPS will often charge in excess of $120.00 for a similar sized package.

The dealers who drop off mail at the USPS booth at the Baltimore Shows may also notice some speedy transit times. Items collected at the booth are directly transported to the BWI AMC and it is not unusual for a Priority Mail shipment to be delivered at the destination by the next morning.
