Selling junk silver at coin shows?

I have sold/traded raw and certified coins at bigger coin shows, but how do dealers react to non numismatically important, ho hum silver coins(circulated Roosies,Mercs,Washingtons,Franklins, etc.) ? I have read about the ___X face value formula....but are there only certain dealers that like them, or will most be willing to buy?

  • If you've only got a handful of silver, most dealers won't bother. But if you have a large amount you want to sell, many would be willing to take them off your hands.

Some more than others and, as always, if they are that interested or don't have a quick flip set for it will likely not pay that much

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Chicago Coin Co. is a primary buyer in raw junk silver coins. I know they like bulk, but I also know that they will buy just about any amount.

If you're talking about the really big coin shows (Long Beach, Baltimore, etc.), then you'll want to find a dealer who drove to the show instead of flying. image

There's almost always a bullion buyer or two at any coin show - just ask around. If you offer your "junk silver" to a dealer who's not interested in it, he'll usually be willing to direct you to the guy who's buying.

Since bullion is a high volume, slim margin area, larger amounts will generally get you a better multiplier from a dealer. My local dealer pays pretty strong for 90% so, rather than bother with shows, I just tuck away the stuff that comes in dribs and drabs until I have enough to get his best offer.

...but a good loupe or an eagle eye can still find anomalies in "junk". So define this junk please. For me, each coin stands on it's own merit.
Collectors will always fill a slot.

Just remember, we sell what we have in the store in $50 increments at melt, so we have to pay less than melt.

How many coins actually are melted if they are bought and sold "below melt" - just curious..image
