How far is Baltimore's Penn Station from the site of the Baltimore show?
Does anyone know? Also, I am not the toughest kid on the block, so if it is within walking distance, how safe is the neighborhood?

Too far to walk.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Cab it, not a walk you want to make. Cabs are cheap and easy to find in Baltimore, especially at the station. The convention/Camden Yards light rail also runs to Penn Station, on the lower level, though I suspect a cab would be quicker and more direct.

My thoughts exactly. With the recent shananigans that went down at fun I'd be very focused on personal security at coin shows.

A taxicab or the light rail are both good ideas. A taxi is faster and the light rail is quite safe during daylight hours and okay at night.
On the issue of taxicabs in Baltimore...I have experienced more "incidents" with taxicabs in Baltimore than I have in any other city in the U.S. One time at Penn Station a taxicab tried to drive off with my stuff. PM me if anybody wants the details of that incident.

If you are leaving from CT, I STRONGLY recommend you fly out from Bradley Airport. instead of by train. Southwest will fly you there directly for about $125 round trip. It is about a 45 minute flight. That plus a $25 cab to the convention center and you are good to go.
A few years ago I thought I would be clever and take the 6 hour train ride from CT to Baltimore. I rented a Sleeper-ette room, so I could get some sleep.
Well, a sleeper-ette is about the size of a coffin, only not as comfortable. I didn't sleep a wink. It was a Red-eye that arrived at about 7 AM, 2 hours before the show opened. So I sat there in the station with my inventory, being eyed by some suspicious-looking characters for 2 hours until the pre-show opened its doors.
Really, it was one of the dumber moves I have made travel-wise. Live and learn I guess.

I highly suggest flying down there. I would do the same, however, I am not old enough to rent a car when I get down there! My hotel is about 10-15 mins from the convention center.
Outstanding suggestion, and one that I have never thought of! I just checked the Southwest site, and I can get a roundtrip flight for $138.60 (that includes all of the taxes, fees, etc., etc.). A rough calculation of the train is about $170 round trip. Thanks!

<< <i>be really careful and aware of your surroundings, being from cape cod where it is pretty safe ,balt even during the day is loaded with crime! im not trying to scare you, allways lock up your coins in a freinds case or dealer that you know. this is a great show, well worth the attendance, have fun! ed >>
Baltimore dangerous during broad daylight? It's rather safe compared to Detroit or Newark, NJ.
