Would this busty be crusty?

And would you leave it in the NGC62 it is in right now, or crack it and send it to PCGS? A board member is going to be submitting some coinage for me, and I am going to send this one in (cracked out). These days, if I were to sell the coin (which I don't plan on, it is my type piece), I almost think it is better off in a PCGS58 than NGC62. Comments?

I like it, alot. Crack it out and stick it in a Dansco 7070.

I think most collectors know that the AU- low MS area is vague. I think that coin will sell for certain money on it's own merits regardless of the slab. The reverse is a bit "crusty" but I don't think the obverse would get the crusty label. Very nice coin with luster.image

As far as I'm concerned? No.... you got your posers, and ya got the real deal. Just talking about this with someone. Just because it's got some tone doesn't mean it qualifies for the "crusty" designation. Asked, and answered. image

I would say that it's very nice, but not "crusty".....

I like the toning on your coin. Actually I prefer this toning to total crusty in high grade Busties. On circulated coins the crust is nice because it covers blemishes, crusty not needed on your coin.

Unless you are into the PCGS registry, I would leave this coin in the NGC holder. If you do submit to PCGS, please report back to us with pictures in PCGS holder along side the pictures you posted here. Many of us would like to know how you do with PCGS.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

    Yup

That is a really nice coin you have there. Like others have said, it is not what I would call crusty, but it is beautiful. As to cracking it out---great idea, then you can see the edge lettering. As for cracking it and sending it to PCGS---WHY. One more time--WHY ????
I promise you---the coin will not change when it goes from its current holder to a PCGS holder---IT WILL NOT CHANGE (as long as PCGS doesn't fingerprint itimage ). So why change holders??? I would buy that coin from you for the same amount whether its in a PCGS or NGC holder. Unless you are playing that very lucrative (for PCGS that is) registry game, why crack it, then spend money to reholder it???
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

A very nice AU. It looks original. The "crusty" label seems to exist only on this forum. It has never been well defined.

Nothing like attitudes like these to make "superior marketability" a self-fulfilling prophecy.

    People, people....!!

We can at least settle one issue today: "Crusty" is something (e.g., a coin) with a crust and/or encrusted. The beloved clown from "The Simpsons" is "Krusty". Long may he prosper. image
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

I didn't explain very well that I'm not looking to score. I really just like the look of the PCGS holders that much more, and I guess what I was thinking in my head was that even if this comes back a 58, which I'm sure it will, I haven't hurt myself too badly.

I also have some strange obsessive compulsive problems, one of which is that I like my collections to have a uniform look. Thus, I simply just want all of the holders to look the same. I am also the type of person who would start arranging the stuff on your desk in uniform rows, with everything at right angles.

As far as bailing out of ANACS holders, I don't regret that because I have an AWFUL time getting the best for my investment back out of them. I've had some pretty sweet coins in ANACS holders that most dealers would not even consider because they were not PCGS or NGC. Granted, these were not your high-end dealers. I like BUYING early type coins in ANACS holders, because in my opinion I see more cleaned early type coins in PCGS and NGC, as opposed to ANACS holders (that give no "cleaned" indicator or net grade). I'm getting better about detecting cleaned coins, but something about an ANACS holder makes me feel a little better when buying. Now I just want to stop and get my collection uniform looking.

I've done far more silly things in my life image

I see I'll also have to go back and see what qualifies as crusty...
