Name a fairly common coin that you don't own

Name a fairly common coin that you don't own. It could be anything, modern or not. For example I don't own a single peace dollar.

Anything that you don't own?

    Just racked my brain . . . . . common? No.

Well . . . perhaps a Stone Mountain . . . one of 4 left for me in the 50 pc. Commem set. Fairly common, but I can't seem to find the one I like. But . . . some wouldn't call that common. I do though . . .

Now if we talk about uncommon stuff, I could really hold court!

Edited for spelling . . . cheap keyboard!!!

1882 through 1884 Carson City Morgans. Nice ones are as common as water. They are among the last ones I'll add to my PL set as it closes in on completion. Same goes for the 79-S and 81-S.

I've owned most of the non-gold, circulation-strike federal coins in the Red Book.

However, strangely enough, I don't think I've ever owned a half cent, in any grade. I've picked up a large cent here and there, but I've never actively collected the early coppers and somehow the "little half-sisters" have escaped my collection.

I've also never owned an 1879 Flowing Hair Stella -- "common" for the series!

    I don't own a U.S. gold coin either, but I do own a Mexican 2 Peso gold coin, 1945 I think.

And finally, I've never owned a Morgan dollar even though my 8 year old has three of them.

  • I've never owned a Peace dollar of any date or grade. I don't think I've ever even held one to be honest. Its not that I don't like them, I just never owned one. I find them quite attractive, and its only a matter of time till I have one.

As a typeish guy, I have one of nearly everything -- and certainly everything common -- so it took some thought. But all those Olympic commemoratives are pretty common. Or, a lot of them are anyway. Certainly the 1983-84 ones. I don't have any of those.

I don't own a Lincoln cent...any date, any mint mark, any grade...nor, will I ever own one any longer than it takes to spend any that I receive in change...the same thing is true for Sac dollars.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

Any Barber coinage or Standing Liberty quarter. I'm trying to get my 20th Century type set an even MS64 or better, and I got distracted by trying to buy proof platinum eagles. I'd still love to have the Barber series in MS64.

WoW, I guess I don't know some of you folks as much as I thought I did.

Here a better break down for me.

Any of the Barber series, Walking liberty half, Standing liberty, v- nickel, peace dollar, trade dollar, Indian head cent, or Mercury dime.

Anything older than any of those listed, I haven't ever owned either.

I do own an 1852 3 cent peice, which happens to be my oldest coin in my collection, with an 1882 S Morgan as the runner up image

1883 Liberty Head Nickel no cents.

I need one for my Dansco 7070 in AU but I haven't found one at the local coin shop I go to. I could find one on eBay if I would commit myself to looking. It seems like everytime I do look I just can't seem to find one I like for a decent price.

I just started a complete U.S. Design type set. I now realize that I am missing 90% of the common coins including Buffalo Nickels. The only example before 1960 that I own is an MS65 FBL Mercury. I actually own gold from before 1960 but the above refers to non-gold.

none of the 2006 business strikes as of yet .... well at least not through circulation
  • I lack about five dates of having a complete date set of large cents. The rarest one I need is the 1857. So I guess for the common I'd say an 1836 lae cent.

Plenty for me. No half cents, 3CS, bust or seated anything, Barber halves, the vast majority of classic and modern commems.

The 1950-D nickel was a good item to point out - don't have one of those either.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
