Would a 1956 Jefferson proof nickel
in a PCGS PR69 CAM holder bring more money on ebay than an NGC PR69 CAM in the same date and proof. If not, why not?

1938 - 1964 Proof Jeffersons w/ Varieties
PCGS has graded 2 in PR 69 CAM and 28 in PR 68 CAM. Two PR 69 CAM's have sold on Teletrade in the last five years. One was sold twice for a total of three sales. The prices were $2,900, $1,850 and $1,600. The PCGS examples were perceived to be more valuable. My guess is that PCGS registry competition must be a factor.
The last I checked NGC had graded 153 proof 1956 Jeffersons as CAM with an average numerical grade of 67.7 while PCGS had graded 157 as CAM with an average numerical grade of 66.9. I am not a statistician and cannot tell you if the variation is significant. PCGS had also graded 12 as DCAMs while NGC had graded 8 as UCAMs.
My crossover experience is similar to Badger's. Some have crossed at the same grade while others have lost point. I was happy when a 1956 PF 68 UCAM crossed over to a PR 67 DCAM.
Dont kid yourself,PCGS may not give it a 68 CAM
you probably wont get PCGS 8 money for it either.
I have not seen the coin but i been round this block.
Proof
This is due to the perception of PCGs being the tougher company in regards to grade. Which begs the question are they?
In my experience with trying to cross proofs from NGC holders I am a whopping 0 - 10.....
Sending in NGC crackouts in Franklins, I have done this 12 times and had 11 coins come back one grade point lower.
I did have a 57 NGC Cameo come back a PCGs PR68DCAM, my only major hit....
In washingtons I also have had all of them come back one grade point lower.....
Now, I have a very good eye for proofs, I can spot hairlines which can often be tough to see in a mirrored field. I don't believe
that I have been trying the above with average coins, rather I felt they all had a shot to aquire the same grade that they had
while residing in the NGC holders...
Now specifically dealing with Cameo nickels in NGC holders from the 1950s.... I have seen/handled a guestimate of 20 or so examples.
Only one that I remember was truely a Cameo coin. I think NGC is too liberal in its cameo designation of nickels from the 1950s.
This is just what I have encountered, some of the Proof Jefferson specialists on these boards may disagree with me as I'll
admit they have much more expertise in their area of specialty. Though I like my skills in spotting a cameo coin of any denomination from the 1950s.
Based on my experiences, PCGs is tougher then NGC grade for grade concerning proofs from the 1950s.
