Government auctions most commonly take place around major port cities for commercial traffic such as New York/ Newark, San Francisco/ Oakland, Los Angeles/ San Pedro/ Long Beach, and New Orleans. Look for advertisements in your local newspapers. Also note that most of these auctions accept full payment in cash only, regardless of amount.

That's because shilling is the standard MO in these auctions.

There are deals out there last year I bought a 400 cummins deisel engine newly rebuilt for 300.00 from from gsa government auction sold it 3 days later for 5000.00.A good web site that is free and has most government agencies is www.firstgov.gov/shopping/byagency/byagency.shtml Check it out you can even link to the us mint from there and many many other federal agencies.

  • I also know that most of the items sold in those auctions are sold "as is" with no returns. If you buy a car from the auction and it turns out to be a lemon then you are out of luck. In the same department, if you buy coins and they turn out to be counterfeit, then you have no recourse and have to take the loss yourself.

As for the bargains, many other people other than yourself go to those auctions to find great bargains. Unfortunately, that creates competition and as a result many items sell for much higher prices than they should have.
