I heard long ago that one could balance an egg on end only during the summer or winter solstace. I never believed it and so on the 21st of December 2005, while taking pics to determine obverse die markings on the cheerios sacagawea as compared to another from the year 2000, I told my daughters about the egg balancing thing.
We each balanced an egg on the stove top. They sat for two days til one daughter actually put them away (that made me sad as I hoped to see how long they would remain on end).... but anyway, the Sacagaweas are pretty modern. One was made in November of 99, I think.
It's the one in the Cheerios package, and the other I believe in January of 2000. It's in the plastic holder.
So the egg thing worked, but the ULTRA modern thing caught my eye
