Kennedy 1973 D DDO *Question*

Ok need a little help. I took a few scans of a 73 D and this is what it shows:

image

But when I look at the coin in my hand I cant see the "DD" unless I tilt the coin at a 45 degree angle to the lens pointing up away from me like so:
_

Imagin the as the coin the the _ as the lens

If it were a 1973 D DDO would I be able to see it head on?

Die #1 is almost as strong as the '74-D.

Some doubled dies, especially in later die state, only show the notching at the corners of the devices that make them doubled dies...the separation lines are either worn off the die or were never much there to begon with. Because of this, you may find that tilting the coin into or away from light at the right angle might be required to see the diagnistics of the doubling in an image...that's one of the sticking points to microphotography - often you can see it but your camera can't very well because you see in 3D and the camera sees in 2D.

    This is the strong one.

  • Very cool!

I do have a 1973-D DDO. Of course the one I found in in pretty poor condition. But it matches DHeath's picture.

I've gotten two 1974-D DDOs looking through rolls from the bank.

    Thanks
Some call it an accumulation not a collection
