Are dealer's asking prices now out-of-wack with collector's perceptions?

Over the past week I have heard from some collectors who attended last week's Michigan State show. Several commented that they felt dealer asking prices are simply too high for what they are offering. Is this just a function of the Michigan economy or do collectors in other parts of the country feel the same way?

Agree. Look at the number of coins in auctions that don't meet reserve.

Looks like folks are finally starting to pass instead of stepping up each time to pay higher and higher prices for a majority of the items being offered. (thier are of course exceptions such as the morse sale and other specifics). Many collectors I know have simply stopped buying altogether and are even now selling. If lots of buyers quit buying, it wont be a pretty sight??

quality material will continue to sell at premium. so-so pieces wont. its around christmas (else: holiday) time, and many people are spending money elsewhere. i wouldnt be too concerned

I think that prices have risen faster than sheets so people will need time to adjust....meantime new collector came to a show today....I would only sell him a redbook for $10 yet he was dying to buy thousands of dollars of raw coins....I tried to point out that he needed to learn a little and slow down......so the point is that there are still people spending money

Thats why you should start ALL of your auctions at 99 cents with NO RESERVE!

Dealer asking prices have always been high. I think they give a high starting price and hope it sticks.
