Most That You Overpaid

I was curious, what is the most that you overpaid (based on a normal selling price, not "book" value) for a card just to get it for you set or a card that you really wanted??

I've paid upwards of 4-5x list price (2005 SCD) for certain issues and I would have no hesitation in doing so again for the right card(s).

Were they just singles that you wanted or to complete a set. Were they "tough" singles that are hard to find in high grade?

Just individual cards, no set or registry building involved

No, I like the logo and went to MSU so I thought I would use it. I would like to know is there anyway to add a new icon so I could have my own, I know the other person has been on these boards a lot longer and I would not mind changing mine.

    Stingray,
On about the 15th of every month, you're allowed to upload an icon. People will probably be talking about it on that day in case you forget.

Last year I paid more than $300 for a '79 PSA 10 Johnny Bench, which at the time had a population of 2. What I didn't know was that 4_Sharp_Corners had about eight more PSA 10's they were about to dump on the market. They just weren't in the pop report yet. Now they are selling for half of what I paid. An expensive lesson:

When 4SC or DSL trots out a "rare" PSA 10, chances are good they popped a sweet vending case and there's more where that came from.
  • Just starting a 56 topps baseball set and it seems everyone is "overpaying" for specific cards I'm trying to p/u first. Snider #150 psa 7 just sold for $177.50 on ebay.. Lists for $125.

I am starting a 67 set and I can not believe the prices that sellers are getting for PSA 9 commons, easily $70++

  • bwhitt - Nice examples of Snider cards, especially as a Brooklyn Dodger, always seem to meet or exceed SMR. The price reflected on that 56' does not surprise me.
