Floor bidding on raw gold: Bowers Baltimore auction

  There are a number of important and interesting gold coins being offered. As we have previously discussed here, many are raw. If they are nice, clean coins, I would expect the floor bidding to be strong.

  I bid on a few of the raw gold coins myself through the online pre-bidding and was the high bidder. But many of the bids may not hold up through the floor bidding.

  I spoke with my representative in Baltimore today. The coin I wanted the most, the 1861-O $20, has been cleaned and would not make a PCGS/NGC holder. Therefore, I will have to pass. There are a few neat coins like the 1879-O $20 PCGS AU-53 (ex-Eliasberg) that I would like to have but should go for full Trends, if not more.
