I was the underbidder tonight for this interesting Peace Dollar. What caught my eye at first was the toning pattern. Then I took a closer look at the slab and found it entertaining. It is the original bag series with a coin that looks like tab toning (or possibly end roll toning where a roll was folded in such a way as to cause this pattern). Either way, I would doubt that the toning was caused by being stored in a bag. Now I'm pretty sure that the bag fragments have no relation to the coin (I can't confirm for certain but some posts suggest that the bags were sent in separately from the coins in order to put this "series" together) but it would seem like whoever was putting this package together would better match the coin. In the end, this interesting scenario along with the cool pattern had me bidding but it was not enough (I was the direct underbidder and it closed at 471.24 with the fee).
