Answer Truthfully - Does Every Coin You Own Have Its Glory?
I was looking at my small type collection (in hand) after not doing so for about 6 months. As I looked at every coin (all slabbed), I could say with satisfaction that each coin's attributes still pleased me. Each coin has something about them (color, condition, surface qualities, strike, etc) that called to me, regardless of market valuation. Would I ever sell them? Yes, but for now, they remain wonderful.
I didn't always feel this way and I've sold several coins that had good quality, but the attraction was no longer compelling.
You don't have to collect like I do, but for those who are not quantity collectors, can you say the same about your collection? If not, does that bother you? Share your thoughts.
Here's one such coin - a lowly MS64, has a few nicks, not particularly valuable, but the color just grabs me.

running like a water color in the rain...."

I collect a lot like you do. I'm happy. Very nice coin you have!
Every coin purchase/gift has a story behind it.

I, essentially, have 4 collections:
For #1, yep. Basically each have their own look and eye appeal. I like them all and would have a hard time selling any.
For the rest, some have their own charms like the centennial gold sets and GSAs. My accumulations are just fun and some of my albums are neat. Two are nearly complete.
My first large cent (bought about 40 years ago as Choice AU, using part of a gift from my paternal grandmother):

Out of curiosity, I had it slabbed. PCGS called it a 55. Lots of sentimental value, and I like its overall look more than those of most other large cents I own (including ones that are valued at ca. 10x more).
I don't feel that way about 90% of the coins/exonumia in my collection. During the last decade, my real interests have increasingly turned to numismatic literature (particularly items more than 100 years old).
Perhaps I need a better definition of 'glory'. However one defines this term with respect to coins, I would not associate it directly with marketplace value. Some coins routinely come nice (e.g., 1916 Lincoln cents). Others don't.

Everything I’ve purchased in the last 10yrs is still great. I’ve got some stuff from my youth in 2x2s that only have value to me because they’re in a book together so I remember them from that time period.
Getting a real job and moving away from readily available coins has made me more picky, increased my budget to buy stuff I like more, and appreciate the purchases.
That's the main thing I look for in a coin...that little something special that sets it apart.
the medal below is Eglit 55 and graded MS62. it isn't hard to find or hard to find nice but I haven't seen one yet with better color. the picture is accurate, it's "brick-red" in hand with only the light prints and no real marks but some scattered verdigris. I see it as under-graded and can't think of a reason to upgrade it.
it makes me smile!!
I have been doing inventory analysis lately, just sold a small group at Stack's and submitted some others to enter the "Glory Box" when the come home. I understand the OP's point and I think if we own our items long enough their truth will become clear to us. I don't become emotionally attached to anything, I just don't see aneed to think about selling some stuff..........................yet!!
They do now,

The BIG CULL started a year and a half ago.
Don't regret it one bit!
Lol.In a word,"YES! Every coin! This question is a duh. Lol. Then if no"glory" esp. when you first purchase it, then why buy it in the first place? I can write a story about each and every coin I have in my collection. Good thread.

No.
No but a good share does. It's been good
Not all, but the vast majority of what I have has it’s “glory.”
I have a couple “hole fillers” in my type set. They were types that don’t excite me, but I wanted to be complete.
Most of them do. Some more than others.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

I went around and scarfed up as many 65 BN Lincoln’s as I could find back in 2000 to around 2008. A lot of time was invested to find a date and mint set of 70 coins and I loved it the whole time. Since then, more 65 BNs have been made of coarse and grade specific interest has grown too. From what I see out there now, I couldn’t really replace them for what I was paying then. Still, if I had all the money I piled into them back, I’d just want to buy them over again.

The price of admission to ownership was paid and forgotten. They are like a lot of things I own that I don’t really use anymore that could bring some money, just not worth the hassle to sell and nice to have for that one day I actually get to use or enjoy. That motorcycle I rarely ride, the pistol I never shoot, records I hardly listen to. Not that I wouldn’t love to enjoy THINGS more, but with the work and responsibilities I’ve taken on, makes it tough. Stuff like that doesn’t bother me to have stacked up. They nurture me when the time is right. Sometimes my ability to appreciate something is a changing mindset and evolving point of view. I’m more likely to enjoy a coin more over time than wake up one day and say “get all these coins outta here!”
I have some "stuff" in my collection that I just haven't gotten around to selling yet. Other coins are special or PQ but might be sold if something even better came along and I needed funds. Then there are certain irreplaceable coins I can't foresee ever selling.
Boy,.....those are nice......And a good write -up! Thanks.
Love the commentary and the chocolate @WildIdea
To answer the OP's question ... most have something that makes me stop and smile, remember, get excited or fall in love with again, at least for what they are.
The one's that don't, or lose that feeling, eventually go into a different box that helps me pay for the next one that might

Many of my coins have special attributes to me.... design, strike, finish, wear etc.. Some are not so special, but I still enjoy them. I just like coins...

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!
My Jefferson Nickel Collection
It's more about the set for me than the individual coins. I got some nice ones and some I would like to get rid of. But I never dreamed I would have darn near the whole set of Lincolns. I feel Lucky.
