New England 3 pence...
Current discussion on another forum. Piece in question said to have been part of an old cabinet collection of mainly 17th and 18th-century medals/tokens acquired by the poster (an antiques dealer) some years back in the Netherlands. It came in what is indeed a very old-looking paperboard flat noting it as "Silver token, unknown" with a provenance that it came from the Quincy family in 1798. Poster says everything else was precisely attributed in their own holders and he sold them off... kept this mystery piece to eventually research.

That is a cool item! It is not struck from the only known dies though, as the NE monogram and III denomination do not match up with a genuine New England threepence. I don’t recall if there is an image of a counterfeit NE threepence in the Sydney Noe book on Massachusetts silver. Not sure when it was made but it does have a great look to it. Only one genuine is known to exist. It currently resides in the Massachusetts Historical Society. There was another one but it was stolen many years ago out of the Yale University library and has not been found.
