    I had always heard he wrote that song for his friend, Billie Jean King, who
    played for a tennis team called Philadelphia Freedom.
    Correct?

    thats my understanding , although I also associate it with roller derby I don't remember why though

    Before I heard it was a tribute to Billie Jean King,
    I always associated it with Independence Day and maybe Ben Franklin. LOL.

    I think it was played at roller derby rinks , I used to watch a lot of that. Its the right time period

    Agreed. I constantly google for online maps where there is supposed to be buried treasure, and it never works out.
