This is a friends coin and he is wanting to sell it. I don't see it in the red book, so it makes me think its foreign, possibly Dutch. I have no idea what its worth, but date is easy at 1750. I don't take good photos, but Ill try and Ill post reverse images as soon at they show up in my inbox!

That is interesting....would best to get it authenticated....not sure if our hosts do those coins....However, when seeing something like that, in a promotional souvenir holder, I am cautious....Cheers, RickO

They aren't expensive coins so it's probably safe to assume it's genuine. I seem to remember a huge quantity being recovered from a shipwreck a few years ago.

Agree. The case alone tells me it is not particularly valuable.

It's a Netherlands East India Company duit. They were minted from approx. the 1730s-1790s. The other side will show the arms of the issuing Netherland Province. They are relatively common for 18th coins. I've picked up a few dozen diff dates and provinces over the years for a few bucks each. I'm guessing your coin would retail in the $5-10 +/- range.

Did these circulate in the Colonial US? Don't know, but since they were issued for Dutch Colonies in what is now Malaysia and SE Asia, I would think the standard Netherlands issues would have a much better chance of showing up in America.

I have seen the very misleading ad for these in a Sunday paper advertising insert. Common VOE One Duit. The one in the ad looked corroded.

I just saw two in that packaging at the local flea market. Both were in poor shape. These repackaged coins seem to be G to BY at best. You can do better. Peace Roy
