My big plans for the GC auctions tonight fell apart. (Basically, I took a long nap.
)
So I went with one of my "long time watch items" with an online dealer:
1917 WLH, PCGS certified, Current holder being issued, (Dealer's Pictures):

Don't know if I agree with the grade yet....but there is at least one attribute, (maybe two), that caught my eye. See if anyone else likes it/them as well.....

I'll say 65+ and if the luster is all there 66+
Damn - I’m like 10 points lower

EAC 6024
63
Finally a walker thread.
Nice 64 to me.
AU58
58 as well
64 if luster is better in hand.
If not, 62/3
I would say AU-58
I'm having trouble seeing what's going on (or not going on) in the right obverse field on this one.
I'll err conservatively and guess 63.
Love the head and hand detail, and what looks to be a little color.
I'm in the 53/58 camp.
Nice left hand detail... chatter on the leg.... seems not to have luster...Either AU or low MS.... Cheers, RickO

Hoard the keys.
AU58
Well I guessed 58 on the last GTG with a Walker and it turns out it was a 65, but I'm going with 58 again on this one, final answer. Edited to mention: I see a thumb, isn't that sort if thing elusive on these?

That varies by date and mint....many of these early ones were very well struck, especially in the hand area. Same for other years, like 34S, 36P, etc.
Now find a 35D, S, or 40S even close to full hand, and you have a rarity.
AU55 is my guess. I love the detail on the hand.

58.
Yes! Someone finally mentioned the HAND!
Yeah, that's the attribute that caught my attention. I know that 1917 is generally pretty good, particularly by the standards of some of the later years, and branch mints....but I thought the hand looks exceptional even for the date. (Might be influenced by lighting, too, so I'm not assuming anything YET!)
Also like the potential for a nice dusty toning....
I'll post the "PCGS Final Answer" in a few hours.....and maybe my own pics in a week or so....
Sorry, don't know how to post gif's here....

Here’s the full slab picture, (with grade):

I kind of Agree with the sentiment that it may be a 58 masquerading as a 63, (which isn’t all that rare), and that may be why I have been eyeing it for longer than usual. (Most of my best purchases are instantaneous “YES!” buys.) But I think the “full slab” view seems to indicate the luster is there, and they add a bit of “realism” that is sometimes missing from “stand alone close-up” pictures. I find the dusty toning rather appealing.
I have a feeling I’m going to like it....
It’s upgrading a rather mundane, a little too white, AU-58. If nothing else, it will add a little variety to my set! The spice of life.....
Actually looks pretty similar to my 63.
Many years ago at a small show I purchased a rather nice original looking slider/shot low MS 17P for around $40 to put in my 7070....but when I sent it to NGC, they put it in a 63 holder - so it wound up in my walker set!
Mt guess was 62. Cool coin.

Nice coin, my first impression was a little higher....
