Today's FUN show info will add as the day goes on

Well there seems to be a number of dealers that have packed up and left before the time FUN put out.
Question is will the FUN enforce their policy and move them to the back at the next show?

I saw two outstanding coins one was a 1829 capped half and the other was an 1887, both in MS63 with eye appeal out the but. Both great coins. Double bid was just too much for me.

Chain 'em to the floor and give 'em a bucket until closing. :)

    Goes to show one thing.
They apparently are happy with the money they made and to hell with everybody else.
Profit is number #1, the public and the hobby are further down the list.

Nothing puts me off more then when I take the time to attend a show and half the dealers have already packed up and left. Scumbags.

Wow. What a waste for a family to attend or a new collector.

Even if the company wants to pull out early, couldn't they benefit by having a person hang around to answer questions, distribute price lists or contact information -- at the least to get full value out of the time and space?

I see this as one of two things
One they made enough too leave early or
Two they want to cut their losses.
My problem is with so many empty tables around me that maybe no one will come to the area?

Double the dealer fee and refund half if they stay until the end of the show.

Try running a major show, before making a suggestion like that.

Biggest show of the year and dealers bolt a day and a half early? Just end it on Friday. Collectors want to attend, they will find a way.

I didn't bother going and I live 15 miles from Tampa.
Can anyone there give us an indication of the attendance.
Pictures of the long line of collectors just waiting in the cold to get in ?
Pictures of the crowds 3 deep at the dealers tables ?

FUN requested a 3pm leave but because of the incident last year at airport was giving dealers a free pass this year should they leave early. I was there til 3 as requested and traffic was light with more lookers than buyers. Most Business was done on Thursday

Flying solo and able to post, maybe you should be packing up as well.

Typical "ratty looking" place. Nothing to grab the attention of potential new collectors or others who might approach this with some level of enthusiasm.

If most business is complete Thurs-Fri, then why not have a closed market bourse for two days, then all go home?

Well.. if the floor traffic is that slow, I would not blame people for packing up.... Not sure when the posted picture was taken, but it looked fairly busy... Cheers, RickO

Sounds like a lot of people kept you from the show. Too bad since it was so close.

Someone somewhere expressed an opinion that at most shows they'd been to , it seemed Dealers were more interested in selling to each other than to customers. Could that be it? When all Dealer Business is wrapped up, time to go.

I saw the end of local coin shows and the rise of national coin shows and now due to the internet and interest the national coins shows seem to be a lessening force in this hobby. Just from what I read on several forums, the interest seems to be fading. Unfortunately, I live in a remote area that is a major expense to attend all but Baltimore, which I have attended several times, especially when little money is left from travel, eating and lodging to buy anything special. There will always be a market for super coins, but for average coins, even some keys it becomes too expensive to sell without being holdered and that removes any chance for profit. The old small coin shows made common coins and possibly a key or two more readily available. Again, just my opinion of last 50-60 years as a small collector and sometime seller since internet. Thanks for listening.

Shows are too long for dealers

  • specialistspecialist Posts: 956 ✭✭✭✭✭

FUN makes dealers stay until 3. They actually patrol it.

Still, you should plan ahead and be there on a weekday if possible. Most dealers have been there since Monday/Tuesday.

I agree with the above. FUN was bustling earlier in the day yesterday; but after 3 it started to look like a ghost town. Luckily I got most of my buying in earlier in the day
