What does your local B&M dealer carry aside from coins and stamps?

CoinstartledCoinstartled Posts: 10,135 ✭✭✭✭✭

Slot machines seem popular. My go to guy in town offers a selection of silver jewelry and other collectibles. Most interesting item was a glass eye.

He once had a pinball machine with an out of order sign on it. After a couple of years I asked why he didn't get it fixed....he told me it worked fine, the sign was to keep kids away from it!

    Gold and silver bullion.
Bit of a selection of coinage.
He makes the majority of his money buying silver and gold jewelry to be sent to the refinery.
Hell of a nice guy too.
He and his brothers have a nice gun shop right next to his coin shop!

    Coin books and mags.

No no no. Knew a guy with an artificial eye in the 70s, worst was dropping the "ball" in someone's beer @ a kegger. No. Still so wrong.

Problem coins in off brand holders and an odd smell that I can't quite figure out .... He does have some nicer dates but rarely a coin without some type of issue.

    Successful trades.... MichaelDixon,

    This is a good question.

The coin shop I frequented as a boy 35-40 years ago had lots of old car license plates on the walls, and I mean lots.

The one I visit once in a blue moon as a middle-aged man has quite a few non-coin silver items in the cases and on the counter-- jewelry, flatware, picture frames, that kind of thing. They come in over the counter and I don't think he has the heart to melt some of these folks' treasures. I suspect that he suspects that they will come back to repurchase them someday.

3 LCS's here in town all carry different items.

1 - light on the coins, more specialized in bullion and ammo and guns. Nice big grizzly bear in the store pretty cool.
2 - lots of coins, junk silver, local college sporting wear, baseball cards.
3 - lots of coins, junk silver (separated by denomination), sterling flatware and dinnerware.

Bob at the first store I listed is a good guy - I worked with him back in the 80's, then he went on to be a police officer. Now running a coin store.

I wish there were a local coin store here.... There are antique shops that have some coins.... mainly overpriced and poor quality....There were coin shops in Seattle and Renton... one had some other stuff - metal detectors and musical instruments. Cheers, RickO
