Cheyenne WY show report - Note, NOT LB, but still very enjoyable

Having recently moved to northern Colorado from Southern California, I am starting to attend some of the area shows.

As a geography lesson, Cheyenne is about 42 miles north of Fort Collins, CO, and Fort Collins is about an hour north of Denver. All of these cities are on the I-25 North-South Interstate.

The drive up this morning was very p0leasant. A cool, crisp autumn morning. Seasons! Much different than SoCal for sure. As you could guess, really no traffic on the interstate. Speed limit 75 in Colorado, "suggested" 80 MPH in Wyoming. Zoom!

The show is Saturday and Sunday this weekend at the Laramie County Community College. Very new and pretty campus, with the stock arena and ag and livestock stuff on one side, and modern classroom and dorm buildings on the other. The show is in the Community Meeting space.

This show featured a free coffee and pastry service plus ice water. No admission, and as noted, no parking fee.

As opposed to major convention center shows, the free parking is at the entrance. Also opposed is the small bourse. I had absolutely no expectations, but it was nice to see Leo Frese and Shaunda having a table. I took 30 pieces of better stuff, and Leo's friend Jason Flowers bought a couple of items. I also bout some postcards with 1950's vintage auto advertising and also some vintage hunting dog scenes.

I met Ken Byrd from Colorado Springs, who also liked my inventory, and purchased as well. We discussed the annual June Colorado Springs show and the ANA library. I also met the owner Cheyenne Coins, a B&M shop, and Rick was also bought out my wholesome circulated bust halves.

I then went to see Bill Arnold, who took almost all of my circulated raw Canadian stuff at a fair price. Interesting, but I drug this stuff 1000 miles to the Anaheim ANA and got absolutely NO action on it. He also had a few 1950's auto advertising tokens that I bought.

Bill Arnold is also the ANACs rep, and they were taking submissions at the show.

All in all, a really small bourse, but I did 4 deals, and made it a very productive trip!

Denver is where I grew up. Very familiar with the I-25 corridor in Northern Colorado and Southern Wyoming. Haveyou ever stopped at Thomppn's corner for some good dining? It has been around since the 1940's or 1950's and is a good place to eat.

Northern Colorado and Southern Wyoming along the front range of the Rockies is a nice area and is very, very differnt from So. Cal.

Well the size of the bourse can mean very little! As much as I love endless isles of dealer stock, I hardly need that to enjoy myself.

Just today in little Rapid City, a local club put on a show at a hotel with 4 tables of coins and 2 with stamps. Of coarse I knew the guys and it was fun to catch up on what's been going on and all. I had to be at work by 11 but the two hours I had flew by and I had to bail.

I still found one sweet Conder token I've never seen in 64-65 range raw and a proof 1928 Weimar Republic Hindenburg commem or medal honoring Tannenberg. Nice size silver coin with not so much as a wipe or anything on it. Sweet!

I don't want to step up for anything really costly coin wise as I recently purchased a beautiful 1977 Volkswagon Westfalia Campmobile, green, that I'm thinking I'd rather spent money on buying this and that for the next few months, or years....a true survivor, so stoked!! I'm chuckling to myself as to be cautious and not clean it wrong or remove its originality. Heck, it's a big ol vintage car and all the same antique rules apply for proper restoration. Anyway, that has a ton of my interest for now, maybe I'll cruise it down the front range someday and bump into you coin guys down there, never know...

I love the small shows. Sometimes you find the coolest items. My all time favorite bust quarter was bought raw from a smaller show. A dealer had a booth and let his friend sit with him. The friend brought a few coins to sell to "make the wife happy". Lucky for me he was selling his type set bust quarter that had beautiful album toning and was an R4/R5 (depending on which book you like). I caught him in the first 5 minutes of the show off in the corner. We both left happy that day.

I met Ken Byrd a few years back at a show here in NH. Really nice guy and easy to work with. Hopefully he will be making the Manchester NH show again coming up next month. He will be one of the first tables I'll go to.

Nice report. I do miss Cheyenne, having lived there for nearly 3 years, but is is still too far away from the mountains.

Thanks for taking the time to write a report.

I still believe that only a few things in life beats time at a coin show. (spending time with family, and well thats about it)
WTB... errors, New Orleans gold, and circulated 20th key date coins!

I remember well in the 70's and into the 80's the small coin shows from Kingsport, TN to Roanoke, Va all along Interstate 81. Nearly every weekend their would be a show with 10 up tables and in Kingsport and Roanoke there would be 50 or so tables. I think that enjoyment of meeting so many dealers and fellow collectors and viewing so many coins cemented my interest of the past 10 or so years in coin collecting. Wow, I wish this still existed.

As an author, I find that small conventions are much more worthwhile than the big, mega-events. I have more interesting conversations and often sell more books. It's a good lesson, and I'm glad the Cheyenne show was such a good one.

I also went to the Cheyenne show on Sunday. I enjoy small shows as well but this one was just to small. Picked up a couple bust halves and headed home. Just not a whole lot to see

Nice report. I also enjoy small shows and have found some nice Dime varieties at the small shows.
