CLCT today announced record operating results for its third quarter of fiscal year 2016, ended March 31, 2016
Earnings release CLCT
Market activity overall was robust, but especially in the US modern coin segment. The record coin revenue was the result of grading 250,000 more coins this quarter than in the same quarter last year.

It is also good because with these kind of earning it is much more likely they keep supporting this board.
Congratulations to CLCT. I'm glad to see our hosts do well and am not surprised since they are adding a lot of value to our hobby.

I agree, but I find it is not very easy to buy more of their stock, as not many ever want to sell.
Great results for sure.

I got a sell order in at 18.50..... been there since it hit 18.09 the other day. Was hoping it would move so I could park the $$ until it dipped. I watch CLCT daily

Sell order confirmation at 18.50 a share..... now I hold for the dip then repeat!
Closed at $19.01. LOL!!!
50 cents a share wont break me.... made $$ so whats the big deal? Watch after dividend is issued. I will get back in under 15 sometime within the next 2 months....
Nothing ever wrong taking a profit and I agree it could cool off a bit after the dividend in a week or so. I am going to buy more around 18 if that happens.
Not sure 15 is going to be happening soon as the stock is in strong hands and there is a lot of upside with football, basketball, and soccer coins being contemplated, like the baseball ones.
Plus it is the overseas business that is also booming as lots of Chinese counterfeits are around (not just coins) and people want to have some protection in many countries around the world and that safety is what PCGS helps to provide.

Now $19.55/share. LOL!
I don't know but I've watched prices for grading and handling rise while turnaround times get worse over the last decade. It is paradoxical because the world is becoming better, faster, cheaper, but the coin hobby seems to be resistant.
I just finally had an order from 2/23 post grades on Friday, and still have orders in-house from 3/4 and 3/29 without grades. And when a package is signed/picked up on a Monday but doesn't get entered into the system until Wednesday close of business, it would seem like this kind of inefficiency is something that a public business might want to fix.
That is why I'm asking the first question/sentence. I can't figure it out, which is preventing me from investing in CLCT. I'm not sure whether the numbers are true operating numbers or if they are supported by an earnings management approach of keeping demand/backlog to make future numbers.
This is an investment thread so I thought I'd ask an investment-related question...
Thanks!

It is a US Coin Forum, but since a reasonable amount of CLCT earnings is directly related to coin submissions I felt it was OK to post something on the stock as well, as I do own some myself and will be getting more, most likely.
Now as far as submissions that take time, I have had fast and slow ones and I really doubt anyone at PCGS is holding back submissions to tweak stock earnings with backlog as you are wondering about. My guess is that they are just really busy. CLCT has so much alternative revenue from overseas and collectables, currency, comics, sports, etc. that I would not believe any delay at PCGS is to play games with stock prices or analyst expectations.
Actually the thing about this stock is that it is has a very large buy/sell spread and there are very few sellers. I plan on holding a long time as like many owners know, the dividend is very good.
And yes anyone else, please keep submitting. The more different labels the better. LOL

A reason for PCGS' great success at this time goes well beyond the issue of label varieties I believe. In my opinion, over the past half year, PCGS has priced its products to (near) perfection and submissions are skyrocketing. Hats off to management!
As always, just my two cents.

PaleElf... It is hard to imagine that "multiple label varieties" are driving 250,000 EXTRA SUBMISSIONS in a quarter above and beyond the record number of submissions last year at that time. Remember, the multiple label varieties are, by definition, often low population labels. For example, the last time I looked, there were roughly (10) Mercanti 2015 Proof Platinum coins in PR70FS and slightly less David Hall signed at the moment. Hardly, the reason for PCGS' great success (and great numbers) don't you think?

Just curious Mitch, but how many people will want a ms70 gold Merc coin with all possible labels? Does it seem that the collector base now demands that each new issue from the Mint be professionally graded? It would be interesting 6 months from now if it would be possible to amass the total graded by PCGS, NGC, ANACS, ICG, etc. to see how many of the 125,000 were slabbed.
Also if PCGS graded 10,000 coins with label A, what's the advantage in grading 10,000 coins in lots of 1,000 with 10 different labels?

PaleElf .... First Strike (and all the profits that came with it) started in 2005. Not 2016.

You are totally missing the point of my comments.

How much do you think that FS adds to PCGS' bottom line? I'd venture that it's not what you think. Most of the FS go to bulk submitters and IIRC they get it for free as part of the bulk submission. If not free then the cost is very small. The fee schedule shows $18 which is what you would pay if you submitted 2 Merc gold dimes for grading and wanted FS. APMEX submitting 50,000 or more ASEs probably isn't going to pay $18 each or anywhere near that for FS.
