Has anyone attempted any in-holder crossovers at PCGS?? If so, what were your results including what TPG was tried??

Thanks in advance.

I've been considering trying my NGC-62 HK-1 for about 5 years. Should I take a poll ? image

I think an Erie Canal Completion would be a good choice, it's a medal which can be hard to evaluate due to some strike anomalies which always cause the reverse to appear weakly struck. most likely that's because the obverse is in a higher relief and "robs" more from the planchet, they always look like 63's till you flip them over. my question was prompted because I have already submitted a few medals raw but I thought that I should do a crossover to gauge PCGS by the NGC standard. if I choose examples that I perceive as correctly or under-graded, with some R4-R8 listings it should help me be more confident in submitting raw medals.

to your question, I think a Poll would be a waste of time.

That's interesting considering PCGS has only been grading So-called-dollars for 3 years.

An interesting experiment Al, however, I think you would need a fairly large sample to accurately

arrive at any conclusion. Cheers, RickO

I believe if I send in the correct medal(s) I can get a fairly good idea of how the PCGS graders are at grading them. these things aren't as simple as many perceive, with the prevailing opinion being that they just get graded like a coin.

I have only seen a limited number of these pieces in holders. Most of them were NGC graded. From what I've seen NGC was quite conservative on the grades, at least a few years ago.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

my main dissatisfaction with NGC as of late is their inability to correctly attribute medals. the turning point for me was a medal I sent in for correction, essentially telling them what it was, and they still got it wrong. that made me consider PCGS and they have done OK so far. hence, this next step.

BTW, NGC got it wrong going way back to 2003-4, so it isn't a recent development.

    This is my only experience...

Was old NGC holder MS64BN, did not crack, sent in for cross, PCGS graded it MS63BN

No- I have submitted to NGC and ICG. But that was well before PCGS was grading them.

Some of us exonumia collectors were lobbying for PCGS to grade SoCalled Dollars way more than 3 years ago. So sit on it. image

I think the correct term is Touche' in this instance!!image and, yes, it was a long wait for PCGS to make this decision.
