At some point, they would have transition the proof dies to strike business strikes, could this have been the case? Or do you see prooflike or satin fields under the toning? The strike is incredible.

    Good morning...a great coin.

    please pardon my dumb question:

is it normal for buffalo proofs that the left front / hoof/ leg is not complete?

should it not be a very sharp and clear Hoof , as a proof, ?
Today is the first day of the rest of my life

The rims do not look square to me and the stake (letters and initial) look rather weak. I'd vote no.

Looks HAMMERED!!! But, I've seen these before. Looks as it was struck with fresh proof dies which in fact the mint did use for business strikes. So, what ya have here is a 1913 Buff I have a very hard time determining the difference. It's a guessing game, right? The rims are sharp inside and out, ya have blocked lettering, right? The problem I having is I believe the details should be a bit sharper. So, I do believe it is a very well struck business strike. And a tough Buff to tell the difference. What a beauty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

It is possible that it was a Proof Reverse die put into the regular striking business. image
