My CICF 2015 HA Session #2 Newps

This first coin I've seen in hand, at NYINC and maybe before that in Baltimore (memory fuzzy). It is what a real gem should look like: pristine, lustrous and very attractive.
Augsburg. Free City Taler 1641 MS65 NGC, Dav-5039. Stunning graphite-gray surfaces are alight with glistening champagne luster on this broad and most impressive selection. Featuring the bust of Ferdinand III with titles and an incredibly elaborate city-view motif that presents turquoise iridescence delicately woven through the devices. Superb in all regards.

This second coin I won sort of by mistake. I bid on it at its opening bid ($500), but apparently there were so many bidders and a delay in sending my 'bid' signal that I ended up getting it at $850 hammer. This turned out not to be a steal, but maybe I'll still cherish it. (I'm debating cracking it out of the holder.) If I sell it, I should be able to break even (I hope!).
Hiberno-Norse. Phase III (c.1035-60) Penny ND MS64 PCGS, Uncertain mint, 16.0 grs., S-6132, DF-24. ΘIEIИI + IIΘINTIII, draped bust left / + IIN | IEN | LIIIO | NINI, long voided cross with triple crescent ends, a hand symbol in the first and fourth quarters and a pellet in the second and third. Stunning, lightly toned with pearlescent highlights. The strike is exacting and the lustrous surfaces are superb.

The third coin I have, but different date and moneyer. According to an online source for Italian States coins, my other pice is a R3 and this is an R2.
Genoa. Republic 2 Scudi 1640-BS XF45 NGC, KM-82, Dav-LS553. A massive offering featuring the beautiful obverse design of Madonna and child floating on a cloud with two cherubs above and a reverse illustration of a centered ornate cross with cherub heads and wings in angles. Well-struck on a somewhat irregularly-shaped flan with classic steel-gray patination and wear consistent with the grade. A seldom encountered type, choice in this level of preservation.

<< <i>Very impressive. Love the 2 scudi. >>
Thanks. The coin is in a large-sized NGC "tomb". I've never cracked open one of those things before. Anyone have any advice? For NGC, I usually just smash it on a hard surface with my tile nipper.

There were two Hiberno-Norse Phase III pennies in the sale graded MS64 by our hosts. Going only by the pictures, my lot seemed prettier to me and was unreserved. The other lot, reserved, hammered at (IIRC) $975. But it's hard to say how attractive the coin really is going by HA's pictures, because we know that HA cranks up the contrast on the non-holder images. Still, I am hoping that the coin is every bit as attractive as some the comments herein suggest. My bidding snafu caused me to overpay by 10% to 20%. It's not a huge dollar amount in absolute terms, but I am counting pennies these days (literally, since I am eyeing some choice Anglo-Saxon material elsewhere!).

Didn't you already own a 2 Scudi - I recall seeing it raw at the NYINC. That's a massive piece of metal.
<< <i>I am on a flight and looking at these again is very enjoyable. I don't think you can go wrong with the Norse Penny. Looks awesome.

Flight? Got wifi?
Yes, I got a Dav-LS553 already. Different date/moneyer. Never hurts to have another if the price is ok. Mine from NYINC is R3 (supposedly) while this from CICF is R2.
