Saudi Arabian 1934 Pattern Proof... any info?

Here's a neat one that I can't find much information on. It's similar to a platinum proof dinar pattern that Goldberg sold at some point, but it's much smaller (4.91g vs. 20.7g) and has a reeded, not plain edge. It is 22mm in diamter. I can't tell if it's platinum (like the Goldberg coin) or silver. Might you have any information on it?

  • It's an "Arabia" X1 Dinar issue (Unusual World Coins), the Goldberg one is the larger X2e type.
I would guess its the silver issue due the toning around the coin rim and, like the Goldberg example, maybe all the platinum and gold strikes were already issued with that little stamp near the reverse bottom.

The coin is a fantasy Arabian 1 Dinar coin.
The date is AH 1352 (AD 1933).

Made at the Vienna Mint in 1965 by Bernard O'Hea.
They were made in a variety of metals, including silver.
Not much is known about these "coins" but they do turn up from time to time.

    I have one:

Diameter 23mm, metal appears to be aluminum-bronze or brass.

Can't add much but agree with the toning comment re: coin being silver. Also, platinum is very heavy (dense) for its size compared to silver and usually a bit duller in appearance without toning.

I do agree that the piece appears to be silver. I did flip it carefully and it has the ring of silver.
