To recap, I was searching for the 1865-S RPD FS-301 variety and in reviewing my collection found what I suspected was it. I sent it in for Variety Attribution Service.

I got the e-mail yesterday from PCGS confirming I was right! The grade is VF25.

Here's what I saw:

And here's the new TrueView:

What a difference a photo can make!!!!

The only thing about self-cherrypicking is now I have to shop for a non-variety 1865-S to replace it in my registry set.... But that's not a bad thing. :D

I also just got some more amazing TrueViews I'll post later for the toning and half dime lovers.

@ms70 Looks like that date / mm is still filled to me on your registry set.

...kinda like your 1848 H10C RPD FS-302 and 1861/0 fill the spots...but that should not prevent you from "shopping around". Nice Half Dime Set!

BTW...you might want to take a look at your 1849 ;)

Yes, that's because the one you're looking at is the basic circulation set that doesn't recognize the varieties and simply plugs in the highest graded (or the only example) from inventory.

This is the one to check out with all the varieties: "Liberty Seated Half Dimes Complete Variety Set, Circulation Strikes"

    https://www.pcgs.com/SetRegistry/half-dimes/liberty-seated-half-dimes-specialty-sets/liberty-seated-half-dimes-complete-variety-set-circulation-strikes-1837-1873/alltimeset/160227

The coin was previously PCGS# 4387, but now after being attributed is PCGS# 145480. I need to find a new 4387. :)

When I first got into VAMming I was amazed at the amount of good list VAMs I found in my own collection. Many that command nice little premiums too. It was so fun. Wish I could go back to those days. Sure, buying a near complete dansco or rolls of mix date BU's and VAMming them is fun too, and much more faster now lol, but those early days of cherrypicking my own collection were very fun.

    The more you VAM..

It is great fun to cherrypick one's own collection.... I need to go back through a huge supply of Buffs one day and see what lurks among them... Cheers, RickO

Thanks! The reverse crack to the right of "DIME" is actually easier to see on the TrueView than in real life!
