    I think that the "putttied" comment might be a little harsh, but I do think that the way the photo was shot might be hiding some surface marks. This one is is graded is AU-55, and it looks nicer than this in person.


    I think that Robert Scot's early gold designs were very attractive, especially in AU and higher.

    This one was not in plastic when I bought it many years ago. Later I had it put in plastic.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    Looks as if there was some 'gunk' deposited around the 'erty',and removed... there is still some residue there.....did you try the black light? Check the reverse as well...Oh...not your coin -sorry. We should watch for it to show up in a slab -or else the owner may be back and say "Oh, I reconsidered your offer.".... If that happens, run.     Maybe it's just the photo but the coin in the op just doesn't have that pizzazz. Jmho.

    That portrait just makes me want to hurl. If twas mine, I'd flip it so fast that you'd get whiplash from watching me do it.
