An author of the MN Coin Bullion Dealer law, is accused of corruption

For those of you that are following the MN Coin Bullion law, you likely know that I am not a fan of it. I also have expressed suspicions that there was some funny business going on when the law was passed.
A story just broke about MN Rep. Joe Atkins, an author of the legislation in the Minnesota House and the Chair of the key committee when the law was going through the Minnesota legislature. Rep. Joe Atkins is being accused of corruption for having his three kids receive scholarships from an organization that he is on the board of, and who's donors have business before the legislature.
While there is no apparent direct connection between the MN Coin Bullion Law and this particular incident, I still think it is informative as to the type of people that were pushing this legislation through.

Here is another story about Rep. Joe Atkins, and him being investigated for trying to get a government pension from the work he was doing for that same foundation from the story above. This other story broke a little over a month ago.

Does the US Mint have to comply with the MN Coin Bullion Law?
Technically, as the law is written, the US Mint would be a coin dealer, or at least the fulfillment company they contract, and are required to register.
However, the MN Department of Commerce said they would not be enforcing the law against the US Mint. The wimps!

Good point. It is relevant too, since per the Supreme Court case Brown v Maryland, the supreme court ruled that an employment licensing fee can also be a tariff.
