Have you ever bought a coin that you just sold to the person from whom you bought the coin from in the first place. I just did.

Confused? image

Me, too. image

I bought the coin from the seller two and one half years ago. He has wanted to buy it back for a while and knowing that I am thinning (no, slashing) my collection, he offered to buy it. I sold the coin to him, money and coin changed hands, and then I saw the coin offered for sale again within the week. So I bought it back!

Therefore, we both owned the coin twice, and I owned it twice within a period of ten days. Only in the Coin Werld!

Yes, an extreme profit such that the coin has increased in value by 10x since we got involved. image

Actually, the coin has been bought and sold at original cost from the dealer each time, and we have both lost the frictional cost of postage (for three trips).

Yes, I had a few coins at GreatCollections last year, my 1807/6 1C went waaay too cheap. I found it listed by the buyer (presumably) and bought it back.

Yes, a few years ago one of our own YN's wanted a toned CC Morgan and asked if I had one. Made a deal and about three years later he was off to college and asked if I could buy it back. I did and he actually made a few bucks. Still have it.

No, but I have purchased coins that I missed at auction/sale and then turned up again, so I bought them the second time.

    Yes.

I have both purchased from the same person and also bought the same coin as it exchanged hands any number of times.

I think I have purchased at least 10-15 of my old coins a second time. I wish I could find all the coins I shouldn't have sold and have the opportunity to buy them back.

As a dealer I did it a few times when a customer decided to sell the pieces he had purchased from me.

As a collector the closest I ever came was at the Lakeland coin show. I had just sold a $5 gold piece to a local dealer, and he quickly resold it to another dealer. I saw it in his case and thaought, "Gee, that looks nice!" When I looked at it more closely I noted that it was piece I has just sold. I guess my taste was consistent. image

You two should just split the cost and co-own it.

Yep...Bought Coin from person B. Sold it to person C then repurchased it from B again to be re sold.

It was a PCGS common Morgan but the toning was very identifiable.

Myself and the person I bought it from made money both times so that person must not pay much I'm guessing lol

Yes but, first from a Teletrade auction and the second time was from the owner, returned it both times. Funny how that was.......guess I never bought it at all

No... I have avoided that issue by never selling a coin.... I have - and hold - all the

coins I have purchased - or acquired - over the years. (except for some darkside gold)

No, but I have been on the other side. Bought a spectacular toned proof Ike. Listed it on eBay, but didn't get much interest. At last, several months later, I did get interest - from the same person who sold the coin to me, and his offer was the same price that I bought the coin from him for! So, I accepted.

I've bought back coins many times.

The crazy one is when you do it unknowingly, from a different person than the person you sold it to.

That happened to me with a No Stars half dime I bought from the late, great Carl Wohlforth. I did not immediately recognize it as a coin I had once owned and sold several years before, but I liked it as much the second time I bought it.

I guess that just goes to show how consistent my tastes can be. image

Here is the coin in question, which went from me to Oreville to Carl, back to me again, and then off to someone else on the forums. (I forget who that was, so the possibility exists that I could unknowingly buy the same coin a third time someday. LOL)

Before I worked for Berk I was with another shop in town. Bought in a lot of foreign poundage loose in a bag by weight. During slow times I would go through the bag and card up interesting stuff. Found an Austrian gold coin from the 20's! Sold it to a collector.

Later when I was at Berk the collector sold it to us. I sold it to a different collector. Ten years later he died, and I bought the piece back from his widow. Sold it to another collector.
