1934A $5 FRNS -- COMPARABLE RARITY - NON-STARS?

Richmond is TOUGH. Was jumping for joy when we found this one at a coin shop raw and it got a nice 64q.

San Fran LA block seems tough too. This one and another one I have raw are the only two I have found:

    I had a Richmond last year in 63PPQ, so I looked it up. You missed EIGHT PCGS 63PPQ's.

    Jeff: I must have missed that 63ppq. Had I seen it for sale I would have bought.

    Randy: Great set! Post an update when you get the grades back. Are you at LB tomorrow? Didn't see you there today.

    Gnat's population figures are correct. There are only three (3) PCGS 64PPQ's and one (1) PMG 63EPQ currently sitting at each company - total of four certified CU's. There are no PCGS 63PPQ's for the 1934-A $5 Richmond type note. Maybe you are thinking of another district or series?

    There are a very under rated series.

    I'm curious if the opposite is true for series 1934 plain mules (correlating with the rarity of 1934A).

    I would rate Atlanta as harder to find and St. Louis as easier to find. Atlanta notes were impossible to find in a CU before the "Miami Hoard". I have seen runs of 1934 plain/1934-A St. Louis notes with changeovers.

    Randy, I noticed the serial numbers also. Your note is centered a little low, mine is centered a little high. The 19 note is probably a very nice note.

    I got the LB off of eBay several years ago. It grades EF. I also have a VG.

    Besides the LB, my E-Star is VF and my H-Star is F from having the block set in CU.

  • 1934A $5 Richmond is killer... PMG has a 65Q in population report and a 63Q.

    Yes, Cleveland, Atlanta, St. Louis are fairly tough on this series. What a wonderful thing to have a full series, all districts in 64Q+ ... graded by PMG or PCGS.

    When was last time you saw someone post any 1928 to 1934D $5 to $100 series, .... all certified PMG/PCGS in solid top 5 or even top 10 population grades.

    Answer = NEVER.

    It takes a MIRACLE to bring a full district set together. I know Jim H. has several. But still very very tough. I only have a couple that are nearly done ... still missing 1-2 banks.

    This is why small size FRN is tops ... damn tough to compete in that world. Even if you have big BUCKS ... still can't find. Takes lots of patience and energy and focus.
