OT- Which British rock legend sang backup on Carly Simon's "You're So Vain" ?

Please do not post the answer if you know, but I just found this out yesterday and was wondering if I was the only one in the world who didn't know this.

Listen to the song and see if you can tell who it is during the "you're so vain" part of the song. It's actually quite easy to figure out.

Listen from 2:32-2:47 for his voice.

whenever they played it on the radio they would say who it was. The bigger question was who was it about, and that seemed almost as obvious.

There are quite a few people that many think it's about, but I don't think Simon ever came out and said definitively, although she supposedly told a couple of people in confidence.

Do you think that backup singer got any satisfaction singing that song?

    Jagger.

I've stumped a few friends with that one over the years.

Ask'em who's doing vocals on Jeff Beck's "Ain't Superstitious," which was featured in Scorsese's Casino. That's a good one.

Or who is in background on Dire Straits' Money For Nothin'

    I love these trivia questions.

If you grew up in NYC in the '60's, it was "Murray the K" Kaufman. Otherwise, Billy Preston. (Or did you want Pete Best or Stu Sutcliff?)

Didn't Carly Simon finally say "You're So Vain" was about a record producer who later married (dumb move) and then divorced (smart move) Mariah Carey?

Could'nt agree more. Producer extraordinaire. Beatles had the raw talent/material but George "assembled" it.

I heard song was about Jagger.

    Don't know B U singer.

I was listening to a carly Simon interview many years ago.

When she was asked about this song specifically she said she would refuse to do it unless they could get

a specific drummer for the song....which they did do.....and rest is history.

    Don't know/remember his name either

I didn't know she has massive stage fright

Good call, itzagoner, I hadn't thought of that actually. My answer was that each of the guitar players on those three albums (Beck, Page, Clapton) had previously played in the Yardbirds, and the albums shown were the first albums they each made after leaving the Yardbirds.
