Two questions

What item would you buy right now in the 5-10k range ?

What item would you buy right now in the 1-5K range ?

Let's say you just came upon some extra money. What would you purchase ?

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

I don't think I could justify spending that much even if I had the money. However, if you were twisting my arm: 1979 O-Pee-Chee Gretzky PSA 9 and 1984 O-Pee-Chee Yzerman PSA 10.

I love both cards Doug and Davis said. To add something different, it'd be really nice to own an authentic Ruth card. Any would be nice!

    +1

Either that or I would try to buy as many low grade 51 bowman mantles I could find. I'm kind of a hoarder.

Great question and really gets the thought process going. Right now I see a few cards that are on fire looking at auctions, Ebay, and VCP.

    $1-5k range - Aaron rookie in a 6.5/7, Clemente rookie in a 6.5/7, 1956 Mantle in an 8, 1968 Ryan rookie PSA 8, - 1952 Mantle would be over 5k in a PSA 1 unless you get a steal.

$5-10k range - Aaron rookie in a PSA 8, 1948 Paige, 1952 Mays, Mantle rookie in highest grade under 10k.

    Loves mantles but what else.

How about a Jordan psa 9...$2600-3300.
Maaayyybe even a Jordan psa 10.. Below 10k sounds good to me.

Davis, you can't justify spending the 1-5 k, even more? I get it. Just making me feel real bad and guilty right now. image

Interested in higher grade vintage cards. Aren't we all. image

I assume we're talking about items we want, and not investments? And we're allowed to assume items we want are available even if that's unlikely?

    1-5 K: PSA 9 or 10 Band-Ache white back, PSA 8 Ratz, PSA 9 1971 Munson, high grade 1971 wax, rack, cello

I hate to be sacrilegious, but I'm sick and tired of seeing 1952 Mantles.

I'd buy the shiniest low-number autographed game used jersey Minor League can't-miss prospect. That's always been a sound investment

5-10K - Highest grade 1932 American Caramel Bobby Jones
1-5K - Highest grade 1933 Sport Kings Bobby Jones or the #1 Larkin Master Registry

I'm really surprised only one response has mentioned unopened so far. A year ago, I would have expected it in 8 of the first 10 responses.

There is admittedly something wrong with me, but I am too paranoid to say what my choices would be.

    Am I alone?
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!

No you are not. There are thousands of people that suffer from paranoia. The key is treating it and not letting it run your life. Seek help. Operators are standing by.

1-5K: Probably another box of 80/81 Topps Basketball

5-10K: Tough one for unopened... maybe a very nice, legit 1975 Topps BB rack box.

I was going to mention a Wacky Pack 1st series wax box, but I think that would command at least $15-20k if it ever surfaced.

There's probably thousands of good answers, so I'll pick one that probably no one was going to mention: 1924 C144 Champ's Cigarette the Stanley Cup, low to mid grade might hit the upper price range. Not saying it is my first choice, but it would certainly be a really fun card to own.
