1864 Ulysses S. Grant "Commander of the Armies" Brass, 13mm Diameter, Reeded Edge.

This was struck to commemorate the day March 10th when Abraham Lincoln promoted Ulysses S. Grant from the rank of Major General to Lieutenant General of the U.S. Army to lead the Union troops against the Confederate Army. As it's not a Political Campaign medal and too small to be a Civil War token, next to a example in the American Numismatic Society Museum research wise I haven't been able to locate any information on this or even another example having sold. The white on the reverse is a tiny spot of silver. If anyone has any information on this it would be greatly appreciated!

Hard to know for sure, but it does not look like it is from that era. Most probably created by someone trying to cash in on patriotism some time after.
