How big a deal is the pcgs set registry hall of fame?

Is it basically just a certificate to stick in a drawer and forget about, or is it a big deal that puts one in the top echelon of coin collectors?

I think it is the ultimate goal for your set.

I dunno...it's kinda cool but at the same time doesn't matter much in the real world.

Just depends on the individual, I guess. For some little guy who doesn't have a lot of money, and a lot of resources, who worked his/her ass to achieve that level, and accomplish that goal, yes, it is a big deal and something to be darn proud of when hanging that plaque on the wall.

Would be nice to have accomplished such a feat in my favorite area of collecting....BUT that`ll NEVER happen cuz I collect Morgans mostly image
  • Several Morgan dollars specialist have received a HOF award for their set(s). I put together a top notch set with all Top Pop Morgan dollars as of 08/20/2013 but I don't expert PCGS to acknowledge it as a HOF set. Still The "BEST" or "The finest set of all time" is there. MWH imageimageimage

If I had a certificate like that, it wouldn't sit in a drawer … it'd sit in an envelope between two thick pieces of protective cardboard on top of a stack of Coin World mags until next winter when I need kindling for the fire (the Coin Worlds, not the award cert) image

If anyone here thinks that you have a top set I would remind you that there are hundreds, if not thousands of sets that are better in private hands.

Now having said that, I did get the 2 certificates I was given and framed them for wall decoration because I doubt I will ever be able to get another again.

That is a generic statement that is many more times false than it is true. While there ARE sets out there equal to or better than what is in the Set Registry, I cannot imagine hundreds let alone thousands for all the sets combined - let alone a single category. And there are very few better sets than those in the Hall of Fame.

I respect your statement but the dealers will confirm there are many private clients they support who are not registery players. We may never know the hundreds of private sets because folks wish to keep it that way. Laura is a great example of a dealer supplying many different high end clients in all types of series. Thousands? Maybe not, but not hard to imagine in the cent series in MHO.

I don't believe there is even one set out there in private hands not registered better than Wondercoins Washington Quarter set.

Thanks Nick. Let's put it this way, I would set the "over/under" line at 1 set out there and I would be comfortable taking the "under" bet. Worse case I suspect, it might be a push! LOL.

IMO, the HOF is a perpetual listing of where your particular set resides in the Online Registry Scheme of things.

Other than that, as mentioned, there could "possibly" be much better sets pout there but then, we all know, they;d have to pass the PCGS test first.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

I saw Onlyroosies set years ago, if he's tipping his hat to Wondercoin, it is very likely THE best.

Thanks Rainbowroosies. But, bear in mind that your unregistered dime set proves just the opposite point! Wondercoin.

Rainbowroosies Dime set is registered. It's just across the street.

Sure. But, the title of this thread referred to the PCGS registry. And, there is no color coin set registry. Not a bad idea though! Wondercoin
