How long does it take to get them to look like this?

Aren't they coolimage I like to buy stuff like this , every year I give my mother an old worn out morgan she has about 10 she rotates them and carries 3 or 4 at any one time.

Normally I would pass these on to her but I'm afraid that if they were carried much more they would be totally featureless.

I think there is a good chance these spent their whole existence as pocket pieces together in the same pocket or chain of pockets.

I'm not sure they were pocket pieces; those coins in general got a lot of commercial use.

Where would crowns circulate ? They couldn't have circulated in the US much beyond the 1850's.

These circulated in the UK. I've seen many in this condition. I even put together a roll of them at one time. I regret having to sell it though.

So unlike silver dollars , silver crowns were actually used? I didn't realize that .

I have a bunch of Victoria and George large pennies that look like that! They were taken from circulation by my grandmother.
