"See a See" or "cack"?

I heard a dealer refer to CAC the other day as "cack". Is that what most people refer to them as??

Generally if an acronym/shortcut can be stated as a word, it usually is.

Bean, sticker, CAC (pronounced "cack"), "run by JA", "little green football", and probably dozens more...

    This is very interesting.

Since I do most of my buying online, I have always thought in my mind: "C" "A" "C". When I was at this past FUN show a dealer showed me a coin and said it was cacked. It took me a moment to realize what he was talking about.

After calling APMEX a few weeks ago I found out I have been pronouncing that one wrong all these years.
Still not sure about ANACS as I have heard three or four versions of that.
But yes, I call CAC Cack.

I recognize the brand and as such will openly admit that it's worth it's weight in gold, and green. And that's the way it is in the coin world. A lot of dealers hate the TPGs, too.
That's ridiculous in my mind. ACCEPT it or miss the boat.

^ That's true. Any inference to that pronunciation is actually " THE C.A.C. " and that's how I hear it from people. I don't know of any other ACCEPTANCE company that is remotely close to what THE C.A.C. has done. A new "layer", or "level". This is a good thing for the hobby and the market. I concede.

I've never heard anyone pronounce it C.A.C in person. What I've always heard is CACK. Go figure. I must live in a time warp.

Think of all the minutes or hours of time that have been saved in the hobby by saying "cack" instead of spelling out the 3 syllables. image

When i see LOL, I don't think of lolly, and it sure doesn't sound like HA HA HA.

So when I see the sticker, the name is Coin Acceptance Corp. or Co. ? Never had to research it further to know the cream rises to the top. And it wasn't rocket science to see who joined forces to make darn sure there was a system in place to protect the integrity of the hobby at the highest levels even if we still disagree on grades or if they(coins) are doctored or not.

And a lot of "pros" have done a great job being "cons". So enter another entity to oversee the overseers (TPGs) who've been victimized by the same LOT which have been at it for years. Count our lucky stars. There should be cause ATS and here for what this has brought to the table for collectors and dealers. Still , I am not condoning, promoting, marketing or spamming ( I don't even deal with CAC). Just observing because my hands are full with running a widget shop and most of the coins don't even make the holders. Those which do are trusted to PCGS, still.

And if the grade conforms to my thinking, I don't need the sticker. But kudos to those who support and developed the backbone of the C.A.C. Tireless efforts pay off big time.

Only cack when used as a verb like "Are you going to get that thing cacked?"

  • I thought it was weird when people describe a coin as "vee eff" instead of Very Fine. I have also heard people say "Is that a "gee"?or vee gee? instead of good.

What should we call Broadstruck??? imageimage

Successful BST deals with mustangt and jesbroken. Now EVERYTHING is for sale.

  • I have never heard, nor thought, of anything but "see a see"; perhaps it is the nature of the hour but these other permutations strike me as very funny. Should I hear them "live" I might laugh! image

"The quality goes in , before the name goes on." I think that was Ford Motor Company's slogan for expressing Henry's commitment to the people to just BUILD CA_(s) and subsequent to that build an empire($) or have a dynasty of team players. And from that perspective , his vision was even before there ever was a show room. ( Coin geeks are this way . We DEMAND the best for our dollar).

Sorry to go off track. Just reminiscing about the old days and commercialism, as it were.

Disclaimer: No advertisers or manufacturers were hurt in the posting of this thought.
If they were, I offer my sincerest apologies to American entrepreneurs for standing their ground.

On a side note and a very "generic" down home boy attitude, will say: " I prefer Chevy, but drive a used Mercedes with rust and a C-ACKED" windshield image

Pronunciation is a funny thang. Our language is even funnier. But ACRONYMS ? Ack. Whatcha gonna say when you SEE it ?
Only a numismatist KNOWS for sure what it is and what it represents. But it's pronounced "CAC" , if anyone is so inclined to say the SHORT NAME. However, because the "gentleman" is WHO he is, expect to be smiled at, scoffed at or mocked, by any of those who are IN THE KNOW and "dealing" with them. Respect won't get a man hurt, and neither will his integrity.

    (Thinking of Henry Ford, today)

Can you tell ? It's just another vehicle, so to speak. Remember FORD : FIRST ON RACING DAY image And everyone who had anything to do with the field sponsored the race cars with stickers.
One big difference…. No other "coin geeks" have stepped up to the FINISH LINE like "cack' has, if you prefer. Then again, that preference is a choice and the exclusionaries won't ever be on the racetrack with any vehicle anyway. So in the end, it's CACK or be CACKED. But you can only be in a Chevy or a Ford.

The C coin A acceptance C corporation was established to ensure the coins they dealt in would stay SAS …. They could have called it Safe & Sound.
It's really SIMPLE SEE A SEA ? Sink or swim, but with the sticker, it will float.

Please don't quote me. This post is for the masses, not the few.

The quality goes in before the name goes on was a slogan of Zenith Corp. Quality is job 1 is attributable to FOMOCO/Ford.

Same here. I never considered "cack".

PS- the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) is in my hometown.

Local conversations often break down between people who call it "Flee-tec" and those who say "Fletsy".

One G-man I spoke to said something that sounded like "Fletteck", which was weird.

I had a dream the other day I said "CACK", and a mob grabbed me and were going to have me put in lucite.
